Smart thermostats

Smart climate control, wired correctly the first time

A thermostat is an HVAC control device before it is a smart device. We identify your system, run the C-wire when one is missing, configure staging and heat-pump lockouts properly, and leave you with schedules that cut 10–15% off a Northern Virginia energy bill.

Two ways we help

New installation, or fixing what is already there

Roughly half of our work is repairing systems installed by someone else. Pick the track that matches your situation.

New installation

Smart climate wired the way your HVAC expects

We verify your system type — conventional, heat pump, dual fuel, or multi-stage — run a C-wire when one is missing, and configure staging so the thermostat saves energy instead of short-cycling equipment.

  • HVAC system identification and wiring verification
  • C-wire installation or add-a-wire adapter
  • Google Nest or Ecobee mounting and setup
  • Heat pump, dual fuel, and multi-stage configuration
  • Zone-by-zone schedules and remote sensors placed

Fix an existing system

Blank screens, short cycling, aux heat running all winter

A smart thermostat wired to the wrong terminal will run auxiliary heat for months before you notice the bill. We re-verify the wiring, fix the staging, and stop the equipment abuse.

  • Blank / rebooting thermostat power diagnosis
  • Terminal-by-terminal rewiring corrections
  • Aux and emergency heat lockout tuning
  • Short-cycling and temperature-swing fixes
  • Re-linking to Google Home, Alexa, or Apple Home

What's included

Everything inside a NovaProHome install

Engineered, permitted where required, and documented before we leave your driveway.

System identified first

Conventional, heat pump, dual fuel, or multi-stage — verified at the air handler, not guessed at the wall.

C-wire handled

We run a true common wire where possible instead of relying on power-stealing workarounds that cause reboots.

Staging configured

Aux and emergency heat lockouts set so your system stops burning strip heat on a 40-degree morning.

Sensors placed

Remote room sensors positioned to fix the hot bedroom and the cold basement office.

Zones mapped

Multi-zone homes get every thermostat named, scheduled, and grouped consistently.

One app

Linked into Google Home, Alexa, or Apple Home alongside your lights, locks, and cameras.

Written fixed price

The number you approve is the number you pay — no hourly surprises.

Common questions

Smart thermostats FAQ

Do I need a C-wire for a smart thermostat?

Almost always, yes. Power-stealing without a common wire causes reboots, Wi-Fi dropouts, and blank screens. We run a true C-wire to the air handler whenever the cable path allows, and use a manufacturer add-a-wire adapter only when it does not.

Will a smart thermostat work with my heat pump?

Yes, when it is configured for it. Heat pumps need correct reversing-valve orientation and auxiliary heat lockouts. Misconfigured, they run expensive strip heat constantly. We set staging at install so the heat pump does the work.

How much does smart thermostat installation cost?

A straightforward single-thermostat install starts at $179 in labor, and a C-wire run is $329. Multi-zone homes are quoted after we verify the wiring. Every price is fixed and written before any work begins.

Nest or Ecobee — which should I choose?

Nest learns your patterns and fits the Google ecosystem best. Ecobee's remote sensors handle uneven multi-room homes better and works natively with Apple Home. We are certified on both and recommend based on your house, not a margin.

Can you fix a thermostat another company installed?

Yes. Miswired terminals, runaway aux heat, and short cycling are among our most common service calls. We re-verify every terminal against the air handler and correct the configuration in a single visit.
